Hello my lovely Yuletide Author!
I'm sorry that you've had to deal with this ridiculous placeholder since the assignments went out. I always struggle a bit with writing these letters because really, I will be tremendously happy with anything you give me. I love receiving presents. But I know that being vague is not terribly helpful to you, so I will do my best. Please feel free to email the mods with questions for me if you need more specificity.
1. Guilty Gear
I find the Guilty Gear world absolutely fascinating and so full of potential despite all the weird shit that got flung into it (and the terrible costumes, you poor darlings), because a world in the future that has nonetheless returned to almost medieval levels of religious power and influence is very interesting to me. I see the Church is being an alarmingly powerful entity during the Crusades and after them.
I ship Sol and Ky like you wouldn't believe, and I would love shippy fic about them, but I would also love fic about them pre any sexual relationship - comradefic during the Crusades, fic looking at how and why they slowly start to build an attachment - or about their obvious antagonism after Sol fucks off with the Fuenken. I personally see that antagonism as being very much on Ky's side, with Sol's being an answer to Ky's. So insofar as Sol/Ky goes, it's entirely up to you whereabouts you want to place it.
Crusades-era fic would be awesome. I love monster-building and I would love to see some gorgeously terrifying Gear creations. However, I'd also be very interested in fic set in the post-Crusades world, with Ky as a policeman.
I don't see Ky as remotely weak or submissive or girly - he was a military commander from the age of 15 and he's one of the most talented lightning users in the world. I would love to see some of his martial prowess in a fic.
And, finally... I hate Sin. I'm sorry. I find him a completely ridiculous character concept. I would prefer not to see Sol-and-Ky-as-parents-fic unless you have a really amazing idea for it that doesn't include calling them Mom and Dad. I am always open to amazing ideas however!
(Okay, not quite finally - I would love to see cameos/involvement from other characters too. I have a particular fondness for Jam Kuradoberi!)
2. The Demon's Lexicon
Mae is quite possibly one of my favourite characters ever. I think she is funny, brave, and tremendously independent. I admire her hugely. I love that she and Sin are friends and I love that Nick likes her partly because she is direct and outspoken and tells him what to do when he needs to be told and sometimes when he doesn't. I do ship them together and I wish there were more fic for them. I like the issues that they've had, that Mae refused to do anything with him while she thought it might have been because of the Mark.
I would love to see post-series fic, exploring what happens now Mae is leader of the Market. Or fic which takes some of the scenes we saw from Sin's POV in the third book and looks at it from the perspective of Mae, Nick, Jamie, or any other character. I thought that the dynamic we saw between Mae and Nick and Jamie in the third book was really interesting, but we understandably only saw it in glimpses.
3. Spirited Away
This film is one of my all-time favourites. It's the thing that I watch whenever I feel small or sad, or when I want to imagine walking through a tunnel to some different, stranger world. What I love the most about it is Chihiro's practicality in the face of so much oddity, the fact that even with her name taken away from her, she's still her. I love her with Haku, although I'm not so much down with the out and out smut for them. You could write pretty much anything to do with this universe, and I would lap it up with a spoon. What I particularly like, though, is fic which focuses on the mundane and the everyday.
I would be very interested to see anything that's written after the film takes place. I'm very interested in what it would be like to live in the normal world after visiting the Land of Spirits, and in the way in which that world bleeds through into ours.
4. The Dune Series
There are some very particular things I would love to see for this world: anything with Jessica, anything with Irulan, the Fremen, Ghanima/Leto (this is the one and only incesty pairing I like in the whole world), or anything with the Bene Gesserit. I love the world of Dune and I prefer it before they started turning it green. I love the manipulations and the politics and the huge wide sandy world they have there. I love a culture in which water is so terribly valuable. I love the Bene Gesserit mantra against fear.
I feel like Frank Herbert gave us all these really interesting cultural and religious ideas with the Dune series and I would love a story that explored living with these ideas.
More generally, I like stories which combine everyday and mundane things with elements of the epic or extraordinary. I like elements stolen from myths and fairytales. I like families, blood or found.
Any rating is fine, from gen to filthy filthy porn, but I don't like non-con or humiliation. I do like examination of the power dynamics between characters. I don't like character-bashing or OOC.
I do hope I've given you enough to have fun with writing the story! <3 I promise you I will love whatever you do. Thank you so much!
