[yuletide] 2010

This is actually my first post in this journal, despite having had it for awhile now.

So, I signed up for Yuletide, because I've always wanted to before and before things have always got in the way.

First of all, if you're here, if you drew me in Yuletide 2010, let me just say that I will love whatever you have written for me. I love getting gifts, I love having things written for me, and fic makes me so terribly happy. You could write "X luv'd Y and they lived together happily eva after forevs boop boop" and I would probably still be pleased. :)

1. Spirited Away

This film is one of my all-time favourites. It's the thing that I watch whenever I feel small or sad, or when I want to imagine walking through a tunnel to some different, stranger world. What I love the most about it is Chihiro's practicality in the face of so much oddity, the fact that even with her name taken away from her, she's still her. I love her with Haku, although I'm not so much down with the out and out smut for them. You could write pretty much anything to do with this universe, and I would lap it up with a spoon. What I particularly like, though, is fic which focuses on the mundane and the everyday.

2. Guilty Gear

I love SolxKy. It was one of the first pairings I ever started liking, and there is so little fic out there for it. What I particularly like is fic which /doesn't/ give Ky a mangina and turn him into a soppy, wilting flower-- the boy's a swordfighter and a military commander, even if he does like teacups, and he's a speedy little shit when it comes to fighting. :)

3. Swordspoint

Alec is one of my all-time favourite characters, sharp as a razor, so vicious and so vulnerable. I pretty much fell in love with him immediately. Basically anything with Alec, I would lap it up with a spoon, although I am less keen on angst and tortured thought.

4. The Vampire Diaries - TV

Caveat: I have not yet begun watching S2, and would prefer not to be spoiled for it.

I admit, I did not expect to like this show. I saw it and thought, Oh great, a Twilight knockoff. Then I fell in love with Elena, Bonnie and Caroline, and that was pretty much it for me. I love the women of this show, so, so much. I love that Elena fights back when a vampire attacks her in her own school. Caroline makes me hurt, because she is so bright and so vulnerable. And Bonnie, "I know who I am now". It makes my heart sing. I like fic which has a little bit of danger, a little bit of sexiness, and a little bit of humour, or any combination of these three. I prefer not see Damon turned into a gigantic romantic hero-- he has some good points, but he has many, many bad points too, and it's nice to see him called on it.

Whatever you write, whatever you choose, I am sure that I will love it.

Other, less specific things that I love seeing in fic-- good dialogue, everyday detail, flawed relationships that still work, friendly violence, strong women treated as strong, power dynamics, verbal manipulation. These things make me incredibly happy.
Aside from that, I'm not a massive fan of angst and I don't like the stereotypical seme/uke construction.
